Recently I went to my family reunion, where I was given the priviledge of speaking in. I have to admit I was nervous, its always harder to perform in front of family instead of regular people, but I thought I would put this insert of my speech on my spot:
Its amazing as I look at some of my friends how skewed their vision and perception on life is because of their up-bringing. Sometimes I don’t like to give them credit, but I wouldn’t be the man I am if my parents and grandparents didn’t allow God to let them lead them in running their households. Family is very important to me, but that’s only because I have a good family who love and nurture me. Most of my friends come from broken homes, parents that don’t care about them, or want to be their friends and not play the role that God assigns parents, and as a result they suffer. They define their value system on their parent’s actions, and that’s great if you parents are doing what they are supposed to do, and are living according to God’s plan.
Family is love, sacrifice, caring, willingness to give, patience, kindness, disagreements, getting on each other’s nerves, hope, endurance. Family is that and so many more things that are intanglible, you can’t quite put your hands on it and you can’t really explain it in words, sometimes its just a feeling you get. Its not liking your sister or your brothers girlfriend just because, its obligation, its unconditional. Family means so many things.
Luke Chapter 11 verse 17 says:
17Jesus knew their thoughts and said to them: "Any kingdom divided against itself will be ruined, and a house divided against itself will fall.
So most important family is sticking together through the good and the bad, and we can only do that through love and patience.
